Untitled
He has risen from the dead
(11th of August 2011)
(Capo 4 C – E free)
(Written after a night shift – suddenly as I played a few chords I had these different images and stories come to mind and within an hour or two, had written most of the song. Influences were – Steve Thomas’ message on heaven invading earth, the Bible, John Mark McMillan and Josh garrels - for the capo 4 E free)
In death they laid his body down
Broken dreams lay with broken flesh
And all creation in sorrow hung its head
And the darkness lay heavy
But on the third day there came the sound
That rent all history, that shook the ground
The Son of God was lifted up
And the angels let out their long awaited cry
He has risen from the dead
By his blood he’s overcome
Captive souls he’s set free
Over death and hell he’s won
Early on the third day she went to the tomb
But she found it like an empty womb
She wept, like one whose child was taken too soon
Whilst in fact it was the birthplace of the firstborn from the dead
Seeing the gardener there she cried
If you have taken him show me where and I will find him
But then he spoke her name, and she cried out
And fell upon him in joy
And running to her friends she said…
He has risen from the dead
By his blood he’s overcome
Captive souls he’s set free
Over death and hell he’s won
On the road they walked with him
Later they said how their hearts strangely burned within
Like a fire in their bones that can not be shut in
(their eyes were opened then)
They realized it then
They remembered the words he said
I must die but will come (back) up from the dead
Destroy this temple, but on the 3rd day I will raise it up again
And they said, in wonder…
He has risen from the dead
By his blood he’s overcome
All he promised all he said
That’s just what he’s done, what he’s done!
Death dies, death dies
Death dies for the first time
Death dies, it’s swallowed up, it’s swallowed up
It’s swallowed up by victory
O death where is your sting?
Around the ageless throne of God
Where he receives the fullness of his labor
When we receive the fullness of his favour
O the song that we’ll sing
All the creatures, angels, elders there
The cry of “worthy lamb” fills the air
And all the ransomed nations joining in
Like a thunder they resound..
He has risen from the dead
By his blood he’s overcome
Captive souls he’s set free
Over death and hell he’s won
(The Lamb of God over all has won)

Whom have I in heaven but you... (Psalm 73)
I was singing these verses this morning, putting a tune to the words and found myself feeling that this song was for our dear friends Charlie and Judy Whitley, as they go through a trying time with Charlie in the hospital. So this is for you guys, hope it is an encouragement, we love you and and thinking of you and praying for you.

Impacted by the Gospel.
If the congregation is not alive with the joy of it, they have not heard it enough. If the preacher does not preach with joy this message, then he has never really seen it, or he has let the old life cloud out this true reality. To know it, is to know joy unspeakable.
